Detoxification can be likened to giving your body a bath on the inside. During a detox we stop eating to keep more toxins from entering into the body and to give the digestive system a rest. But we drink lots of fluids which help to wash out all the harmful toxins which have entered into our bodies over a period time.
These toxins are what cause the body to become sick; so by removing them from the body we eliminate the risks of getting sick. If the body is already sick, then a good detox will help the body to heal, and restore itself.
The toxins enter into our bodies from the foods we eat, especially from processed foods, meat, dairy and even cooked foods can be toxic. Toxins also enter the body through the environment especially by the air we breathe. Alcohol, cigarettes and drugs, including prescription drugs are also very toxic.
So the first step in detoxification should always be to stop toxins from entering into our bodies. This combined with an intake of lots of clean fluids will do wonders for the body. Then to take it to the next level you can go on a detox program, where the toxins which are lodged deep within the body are removed from the body.
There are several different detox programs, but I prefer to do the juice fast, where only fruit and vegetable juices are consumed along with lots of water. No matter what kind of detox program you choose to go with, make sure that you are under the care of a health professional during this time, as your body will be undergoing dramatic changes.
